Loch Vale: The name, in Scottish, literally means "Lake Valley." This is the valley between Taylor Peak, Powell Peak, and Otis Peak, and it flows down into Glacier Basin. The Loch, a beautiful alpine lake, is center stage in the valley.
It was named after Mr. Locke, a friend of Abner Sprague (a locally famous hotelier and mountain guide), who visited the Park. Sprague, with a bit of humor, changed it to resemble the Scottish spelling of Lake.
One of our trails goes through the eastern part of this beautiful valley.
